Inspirational Sayings Posts

5/22/2007

Hey Guys!

My inspiration this week comes from the idea of heroes. Mainly it comes from understanding what defines a hero. I recently watched a "YouTube" video that was talking about the war in Iraq and supporting our troops. Now before you jump to conclusions, I support our troops, I support the decisions that the administration of this country has made, and encourage anyone who doesn't to: a) don't whine to me about it, and b) consider what the world would look like if YOU ran it, then rethink your argument.

But what struck me as I was watching the video was not how the author had tried to capture pictures of our soldiers in grand, heroic positions, but how the troops had been portrayed as the same as the rest of us. There were no pictures depicting war crazed rambo-esque warriors, but instead pictures of fathers, sons, mothers, daughters, wives, and people just doing their jobs...without complaining.

To me, this videographer has stumbled onto something vitally important. By showing that these people that a large majority of Americans consider to be heroes are "average joes" like the rest of us, the author has given us hope that we all can make a difference in the world regardless of where we are or what we are doing. We are all important and that is all that matters.

Our faith is the same way. God has given us a book that depicts the life of the greatest hero that ever lived as being a mere carpenter by birth. Jesus did not live the life typically thought of when one pictures a "hero". He walked among his people, communed with them, and then in the most bittersweet turn of events ever recorded he died for their sins. But because he died for our sins, we are able to gain everlasting life. How amazing is that!? What is even more amazing is that Christ has given each one of us a purpose in our lives. We are to influence others in such a way that they too will come to seek God. Each one of us is important! Each one of us has a great, intended purpose!

As you go about life guys, remember one thing: Because of Christ we are all Heroes. So lets act like it!

I love you all and God Bless!

"Timothy, my son, I give you this instruction in keeping with the prophecies once made about you, so that by following them you may fight the good fight, holding onto faith and a good conscience." - 1 Timothy 1:18-19
